can you help me?

i was thinking it would be good to have a spot where people can exchange advice and tips about all the things we need to make happen in our lives.

for example, my hand towels in the bathroom always look dirty, even when they're clean. i prefer white, but can anyone tell me where to get good handtowels that don't go scuzzy? i have tried sheridan, and they are no better than anything else. any brand tips?

a similar question. which do you think is the best linen you can buy? brands?

thank you.

please ask here if you have any questions.

I wash my sheets and towels with both washing powder and a lid full of home-brand colour-safe napi-san.

Not very environmentally correct, I know, but it keeps them sparkling.

ps I like this new blog.

pps if anyone can teach me how to crochet, I'll do a crafty skill-swap with them.

hey elaine. welcome as first visitor!!

thanks for that tip. i've tried soaking whites in napi san and also white king. it just doesn't seem to get the white really bright.

but where do you put the napi-san? into one of those little drawers separately to the washing powder or with it? mmmm, i might try that.

also i have really expensive pure cotton weave white doona cover that has kind of discoloured along the top, just with a greyness that isn't a stain and won't wash out. any tips for that? maybe i should try soaking it in something in the laundry sink?

re crochet, i can't help you there. i did learn as a child but never got beyond doing just a long string. and i can't even remember how to do that. isn't knitting nancy similar?

I buy those cheap white handtowels at Ikea that cost about $1.50 each and for some reason they stay snow white just through regular washing.

And because they're so cheap you can buy heaps and change them every day.

Terribly decadent I know but they're only small so don't add too much to the washing load.

I suppose my towels don't have three kids to contend with!

(I just chuck the napi san in with the washing powder)
